Human Rights Day 2020

on this day in 1948, the United Nations adopted a document called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that “proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”

Eleanor Roosevelt was the Chairperson of the drafting committee!

in 2010, the UN added a few things to the document such as access to clean water.

the theme for 2020 is focused on recovery efforts for COVID-19.

and it’s on days like today we can reflect on the ways we make a difference in our own communities. 💕
